HOSPITALITY BUSINESS DEPARTMENT

HTL 155 - International Hospitality in South Africa - 3 credits

August 22-September 2, 2010

This course will focus on the impact of tourism on the emerging nations of South Africa. Students will explore new techniques and business practices that ensure that the environmental, cultural and economical impact of "ecotourism" will benefit local native communities and preserve the environment. From the blossoming vineyards of Cape Town, South Africa to the red sand-whipped deserts of the Skeleton Coast in Namibia and the magnificence of Victoria Falls in Zambia, students will be exposed to local business practices across the region, which can so critically influence local environment and culture. We will investigate the booming business of extreme sports and discover the practices pitfalls of resort management inside one of the largest game reserves in this part of the world.
